My daughter let me know that today is National Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Day.
I should have known. After all, the PBJ was my lunch in grade school and much of high school, and a regular evening snack to this day.
My winning combo was always Wonder Bread, Jif Peanut Butter, and Welch’s Grape Jelly.
Skippy would work in a pinch but the jelly was non-negotiable, and here’s why: Welch’s is made from grapes; every other brand is made from grape juice. A huge difference.
Today I’m more accepting of a PBJ that includes variations that would have terrified me as a kid — like honey wheat bread and strawberry jelly. (That’s what I had today.)
Have one, won’t you?
